On Saturday 14th July, the St. Enodoc Mail on Sunday team entertained East Devon Golf Club.On one of this summer’s better days, the breeze was just enough to make it a good test of golf.
First out for St. Enodoc was the ever-steady Richard Matheron playing 2-handicapper Jacob Tinsley. These two had a great match with Richard sinking a fifteen-footer on the eighteenth to win one up.
Next out was John Paul, who after a dodgy start came back well against 4-handicapper, Fraser Hassel. John was two up after thirteen but Fraser came good with a couple of birdies to win on the 18th hole. The quiet man of the team - Andy Bunt – was third out and continued his good form making four birdies to close out Cameron McMorren 3 & 2.
Junior Joe Combellack came up against an in-form James Thomas who went on to win 2 & 1. Rob Davies, St. Enodoc’s talented anchor man, played Harry Nodwell , both 2-handicappers. Rob’s match play skills stood him in good stead and he won 4 & 3, securing a great win for the St. Enodoc team 3 games to 2.
St Enodoc now progress into round eight and the last sixteen in the country. The venue and date for the next round have not yet been drawn.
