St. Enodoc Golf Club - Men\'s Captain\'s Day

Men\'s Captain\'s Day format is becoming established now with golf preceding a dinner at which the year\'s trophies are presented. The weather was perfect for a Stableford Better Ball competition played off ¾ handicap from the yellow tees and as expected the leading scores were really excellent with worthy winners in the now familiar guise of Richard Hawken and Richard Lawrence with a terrific score of 45 points with close on their tail, just a point behind, Rob Young and Gary Franks. Those in the prizes are listed below along with closest to the Pin (on the 15th) Mike Parry and longest drive (18th) Jake Sanders. 3rd, 4th and 5th places were all decided on count-back.

1st Richard Hawken & Richard Lawrence 45 pts
2nd Rob Young & Gary Franks 44 pts
3rd Malcolm Cole & Tony Rounsevell 41 Pts
4th Steve Smith & Chris Tickner 41 Pts
5th Anders Tensjo & Nick Clarke 41 Pts

An excellent meal was then enjoyed with all the Men\'s Club trophies on display along with the County “A” Team Cup won by St Enodoc this Summer - a feat only previously achieved in 1930 and 1937. Also on display was the Cornwall Golf Union Seniors Scratch Cup won in 2012 in magnificent style by Martin Biddle.

The evening had special meaning as it saw the presentation of the Andy Jolley Order of Merit Trophy by his widow Fiona to Richard Hawken. Andy last year won the Order of Merit the culmination of consistent scoring throughout all the year\'s competitions before sadly losing his life shortly afterwards. His family have presented the trophy to the Club in his memory and in keeping with the evening his Father-in-Law Tony Gregan presented all the other trophies.
