Saturday 1st June saw a smaller field than normal of Members competing for one of the major Club competitions of the year the Magor Gold Medal - the Club Championship. This is a 36 hole Gross Medal played mostly from the blue tees, incorporated into this is the Woodcote Park Cup with the first 18 holes in the morning counting towards it alongside additional entrants for just this competition.
The course was presented in excellent condition providing a fair but very stern test of golf with the rough thickening substantially in recent weeks which alongside firmer ground conditions and a healthy northerly wind made good scoring a real challenge.
Rob Davies found the conditions to his liking returning two solid rounds of 73 and 72 to win the Magor Gold Medal in a very impressive manner, Rob's closest contender was one of the Club's promising youngsters Joe Combellack who followed an excellent morning round of 75 with a 78 in the afternoon. Sam Jarvis finished off a good day for the Club's youngsters claiming third spot with rounds of 80 and 82.
Joe Combellack completed a succesful day winning the 18 hole Woodcote Park Cup with his morning gross score of 75 being reduced to a nett 69. Colin Earle finished in Second with a 71 followed by Sam Jarvis in
Third with a 72.
