St Enodoc travelled to Bude on Saturday 31st March for their first round match against this competitions 2017 winners. With this in mind it was always going to be a tough proposition, but the ladies went there determined to give it their all. The conditions added another dimension with a cold wind picking up on cue, but fortunately the rain had passed making it a little easier to bare.
Bev Vann was the first to venture out against the seasoned veteran Jean Pearce. It was a tough match and Bev needed to win 17 to bring it back to all square, but alas a missed putt meant the first point went to Bude. Both Larry Barnecutt and Sarah Fisher were up against two very steady players, Chris Simmons And Kay Dinsdale. Unfortunately, on the day home advantage won and Bude took the next two points to book a place in the next round.
Meanwhile, St Enodoc's Vice Captain Sue Roworth couldn't get the'rub of the green' on the front nine. Sue found form at the 13th and fought back from 5 down to salvage a half. Last and by no means least, the on form Caroline Hume-Kendall won 2up and the final point for St Enodoc.
The final score was Bude 3.5 - St Enodoc 1.5
Thank you to the St Enodoc ladies for their efforts and to the caddies for their support.
The second round Annodata Matchplay fixture for the remaining St Enodoc Team will be confirmed after the draw which takes place on Monday 16th April.
