The winter schedule has now begun with the start of both Winter Foursomes knockouts on the Church and Holywell Courses. The courses have had a high degree of maintenance carried out and, despite some rather large tyne holes in the greens, some great golf has been played in some difficult weather conditions at times.
In the recent Stableford Competitions, played on one of the few lovely days of weather, in Division One Sarah Sandercock came in with 37 points to win followed by Sue Roworth on 36 points and Bev Vann on 35 points. Extremely good scores in view of the difficult greens. In Division Two Viv Steer was the winner with 33 points. In second place was Pat Parry with 30 points and third was Mary Baillie with 29 points.
On the Holywell Course the winner, Fiona Darling, scored a solid 37 points with Freda Wherry, making a rare outing on the course, coming second with 35 points. Third Place was taken by Annabell Woolcott with 32 points.
A Roworth Salver Competition was played on the previous Sunday and Pauline Meredith won this with a score of 31 points on countback from Tamsin Blake. Trudy Tremain was third with 30 points.
The first Tuesday in November was Medal Day. On the Church Course in Division One Jax Buse was first with a nett 79. With the Competition Standard Scratch rising and a stableford adjustment she reduced her handicap from 14 to 13. Meg Godfrey and Barbara Graham both carded the same score with Meg taking second on Countback and Barbara taking third place. In Division Two Edna Alford played some great golf to score a magnificent Nett 72 and cut her handicap by 3 shots to 23 as well as taking first place. In Second was Sue F Jones with Nett 84 and third was Barbara Hawkins with Nett 96.
On the Holywell Course Mavis Lugg scored really well to take first place with a Nett 61 and reduce her handicap from 30 to 28. In Second was Jaye Guest with a nett 63 reducing her handicap from 38 to 27 and Sue Walker was third with a Nett 68.
