The Final of The President’s Cup was played on Sunday 13th January in excellent weather conditions. This is one of the premier competitions in the Ladies’ calendar, all players have to play off scratch and it is a knock out format. As a result, this competition always attracts a strong field and the standard of golf is good.
This year Bev Vann reached the final after winning her semi-final on the eighteenth hole in a very close match with Sue Ofield. Sarah Sandercock overcame a worthy opponent in Jax Buse to book her place in the final.
Sarah got off to a great start with a birdie on the first hole and the match was nip and tuck until Bev forged ahead around the turn. The extra pressure from the Frank Wills onlookers didn’t faze Sarah at the 15th hole where she got a birdie. However, Bev finished this closely contested match on the next hole.
