St. Enodoc Golf Club - Ladies County Championship 2022 Report

Ladies County Championship 2022 Report

Eight of our ladies took part in this years County Championships held at Tehidy. Of the eight, five qualified for the second days knockout rounds. Kira Barnes, Jan Harrison and Caroline HK went into the first round of the Championship and Cath Hopkins and Maria Buckley into the Plate. Unfortunately, a positive Covid test in the evening took Jan out of the competition.

Kira had a good win in her first-round match but luck was against her in the quarter final losing to defending Champion Megan Giles of St Mellion. Caroline lost her first-round match on the 19th which put her into the Advanced Plate knockout and into the semi-final. Cath had two good wins seeing her go through to the Plate semi-final on Saturday. Maria was knocked out by a tough opponent in the morning.

So, Caroline and Cath were back at Tehidy early on Saturday with their loyal caddies and supporters. Caroline had a tough match against Nikki Hodge of Perranporth but managed to beat her on the 16th 4&2. Cath’s match against Maisie Drewitt of Falmouth was an excellent battle which sadly Cath lost with the last putt.

Caroline played Lizzie Nile from Carlyon Bay in the Advanced Plate final but was out played by youth and excellent golf.

The Western Morning News Cup was won by Perranporth (again) but I am delighted to report that St Enodoc were in the very respectable position of Runners Up.

Congratulations to all ladies who took part in what was our most successful Champs for some years.
