On Wednesday 24 ladies from St Enodoc arrived at Celtic Manor for 3 days of golf and fun. The weather was kind and gave us 3 dry days despite delaying our golf on the Thursday due to thick fog. On the first day we played the Roman Road Course in a Dallas Scramble format which broke us in relatively gently for the second round of four ball better ball on the Montgomery course. If you didn\'t use a buggy, the fact that you could climb like a mountain goat came in very useful! The carries off the tee were long and made everyone work hard to stay in play. Some of the par 3\'s were interesting to say the least but we were all up for the challenge. On the Friday there was no fog to contend with but we did have to play our best golf to score an even mediochre number of points on the 2010 Course where the Ryder Cup was won by the Europeans. How much more we appreciate their skills now that we have also played each hole on that course!! Despite very few carries off the tees there were many bunkers and what seemed like water everywhere and pin positions that only professionals could deal with. The 18th hole is a great finale to the course with a lake containing the regulation fountain and a green so far above the fairway level that nothing short of a perfect shot takes you safely to rest there. The trip was organised for us by Terri Gliddon who really did us proud in every way. We dined well, wined well and, after wining and dining and golfing, obviously slept very well in our luxurious surroundings. We all felt we could have coped with having all our needs tended to by the extremely attentive staff forever. Our clubs were carried to and fro and always ended up in the right place, vehicles turned up to collect us just when we needed to be transported and all of this was always done with a smile. What more could you wish for?! One lady, who will remain nameless, was not able to play due to injury. However, after facials, massages, saunas, swimming and many other spa treatments we managed to pour her into the car to be transported back to reality! A wonderful experience for everyone which will not be forgotten.
