St Enodoc continued their Kernow Cup quest against St Austell again on Tuesday evening, this time at St Enodoc on the Holywell course.
The team was made up of Elyssa Carter, Teo Deboer and Thomas Richards.
Thomas went first against Genevieve (who he played against at St Austell). Thomas’ driver was working well and despite some good recovery shots from Genevieve, an uncharacteristic off day for her handed Thomas a comfortable victory finishing on the 11th hole.
Next up was Elyssa against the consistent hitting of Lucy. There was some excellent golf played by both girls reaching the fourth tee all square. Elyssa took the lead on the fourth and despite excellent play from both girls, Lucy couldn’t claw back Elyssa’s lead. Elyssa kept plugging away and winning key holes winning the match 5&4.
Teo was up against the very big hitting Alex. Due to handicap restrictions of the Kernow Cup, Teo had to play off a lower handicap and as a result didn’t receive any shots despite being the higher handicapper. Some of the shots on display were eye opening with both boys hitting their drives on the first over the top and Alex driving the green on the third. It was nip and tuck throughout the front 9 with the match all square standing on the 10th tee. However, Alex went up a gear on the back 9 and was only 1 over par gross for the next 4 holes. Teo put up a good fight but couldn’t compete with the exceptional play from Alex. The match ending on the 14th.
This result gave us our first win and we look forward to playing Carlyon Bay at St Enodoc soon.
