History was made as two of our Juniors, Sam Jarvis and Rhiannon Rich won the annual Turkey Trot against one of the biggest fields for some while as 152 Members took part. The weather forecast all week showed rain but other than a few drops at the end it was dry, but in its place we had a strong North Westerly wind which proved too strong for Richard Hawken who had the misfortune to have his card blow away out of his hand and over the fields on the 14th.
One each tee there were 4 teams of 2 playing Foursomes some Men, some Ladies, some mixed all out with the intention of winning some of the seasonal fare so well selected by Lainey Christmas. With Nick Williams very much in charge of proceedings the prize giving started as usual with the much coveted worst score prizes which seems to be fought out by the same two teams and this year Henry Irons and Sue F. Jones were pipped by Tyrrell and Brenda Sandry who had the most disgraceful score.
With the prizes going down to 40th place everyone of the 76 teams was in with a chance and in the end the results, in this hardest of scoring formats coupled with the wind on the day were both close and very creditable. It was terrific to see two of our very promising Juniors Sam Jarvis and Rhiannon Rich beat all the “oldies” to scoop the turkeys and everything to go with them. The major winners were:-
1st Sam Jarvis & Rhiannon Rich 35 points
2nd Keith Searle & Kevin Parker 35 points
3rd Rex Molloy & Malcolm Jones 34 points
4th Mary & Charles Rayment 34 points
5th Paul Warren & Phil Jory 33 points
The Turkey Trot is always a great way to start our Christmas golfing festivities and thanks to Nick Williams this year was no exception.
