Junior Kernow Cup match report

The second Kernow cup match of the season took place at St. Mellion Golf Club, The Old Course. The fairways were firm due to the persistent sunshine making things tricky with offline shots bounding into the trees and to make things tougher the match was played off the white tees.

Out first was team captain Lewis Bradley vs Harry Smith. Lewis was giving 5 shots, he birdied 3 holes overall and won the last 3 holes he played to win 2&1. An excellent finish to retain a no loss policy for the Kernow cup 2018.

Out second was Liam “comeback” Bateman, receiving 2 shots from Harry Taylor. Liam won 4 of the last 5 holes to come back from 3 down to get the half, a highlight in this duel was Liam knocking a driver 200 yards onto the heart of the 14th, par 3, green. Father, Lee, reports that he’s come to accept that Liam might beat him in the not to distant future.

Third off was debutant Lewis Sandercock giving 3 shots to Tom Hollyman. Lewis’s game plan was to keep the driver in the bag but having played the first 9 holes which consists of 3 par 5’s and a few lengthy par 4’s he reassessed and got it out. A good performance on his debut but unfortunately his opponent used his shots well and won 2&1.

The final result was 1.5-1.5 and the team are happy with a halve away. All the matches finished on the 17th or 18th and so it was a close game. The next match is on the 29th of July vs St. Mellion at home.
