St. Enodoc Golf Club - Junior Kernow & Bolitho Cups 2019

Junior Kernow & Bolitho Cups 2019

The Bolitho matches turned out to be a close encounter between the two teams, which saw four of the six matches finish on the 18th. Carlyon Bay got off to a good start with St Enodoc’s Charlie Edwards and Jamie Beare playing the course for the first time. They came up against Sam Ward and Lewis Gay whose great golf and course knowledge led them to be runaway winners. Kira Barnes gave St Enodoc a point, as her quality play allowed her to win a close match 2up over Ricardo Sanchez. Next out was junior captain Lewis Bradley playing Alec Nile, he found himself 3 down through 10, however he played some superb golf on the back nine to halve the match. Liam Bateman, playing Hugo Watson, got off to a great start gaining a 4up lead after nine holes, however some impressive golf from his opponent on the back nine meant that he found himself 1 down on the 18th tee. Showing his resilience Liam was able to win the 18th to halve the match. Last out, making his debut for St Enodoc, was Jamie Atkinson playing Harry Richards, having never seen the course before Jamie fought valiantly before being pipped on the eighteenth. This led to the overall score being 4-2 to Carlyon Bay.

The Kernow Cup saw three St Enodoc juniors play against a strong Carlyon Bay team. First out for the Kernow team was Quinn Bateman, who never gave up in his match, despite some good play from his opponent Maddie Watson, which led to a 3&2 defeat for Quinn. Next up was Archie Carnegie playing Lizzie Nile, Archie got off to a steady start and was 3 up early on, however some fine golf on the back nine by his opponent led to a 3&2 loss. The final match saw Daisy Lane play an in form Ella Grace Crocker, whose consistent play led to a strong lead early on. Daisy tried hard to recover from this, but the match ended in a loss for Daisy. This made the final score line 3-0 to Carlyon Bay.

All the matches were played in fantastic spirit and all players enjoyed a delicious meal at the Carlyon Bay Hotel afterwards. A special thankyou to all those who played, spectated and provided transport to the match. We all look forward to the return fixture at St Enodoc in a couple of months’ time.
