After five rounds in the Battle Trophy Series, things are heating up. With one round left, three players are tied at the top on 67 series points. On Saturday John Paul - Mr Steady himself and the winner of last year's Order of Merit - managed a very tidy nett 71 to win the day by one shot over Jack Irwin, Rod Frost and Paul Clemens, all of whom had nett 72's. It has come to the writer that JP's playing partners had to do a bit of psychiatric treatment to get him home in one piece. With a double bogey on 10 and again on 18 it was touch and go. However, his very good front nine left him with some padding and he rarely comes unstuck does our JP.
So, cometh the hour on Saturday 8th October, who will be the man in the final round? Will it be Rob Cook, Matthew Warr or John Paul himself? They are all clinched at the top of the table. Josh Greenaway and Richard Hawken are definitely within striking distance, only two points back.
