This Saturday saw the final round of the John Cory Cup Series. The weather was awful, with a strong westerly wind and showers through the morning. Despite the weather, 63 members turned out in a bid to climb the series table and win the days competition.
Continuing his recent form, this week’s winner was Steve Buse with 33 points. Steve’s win moved him 6 places up the series table – not quite enough to take the top spot though! In second Colin Reynolds scored 32 points and just nudged ahead of Nigel Buse who was 3rd on countback with 32 points.
John Paul came in 4th on countback with 30 points and also moved up the series table. Keith Searle also scored 30 points and took 5th place. Rob Cook was 6th with 29 points, just making his way into the series prizes. In 7th place Keith Hawke scored 28 points and beat Dave Derry on countback into 8th place.
The series was all open at the top with Russell Combellack not playing this Saturday. The weather might have done him a favour though as none of the contenders for his top spot were able to knock him off. Russell therefore wins the John Cory Cup and takes the series prize with 71 points overall. Although not winning an individual round, Russell placed high in all the rounds he played. His best result was a second place for 19 point back in January.
Steve Buse nearly slayed the giant with this weekend’s win, but finished in second place on the table with 70 points. John Paul also could have silenced the beast but only scoring 17 points this weekend finished the series in 3rd place.
Norman Evans slipped down the table into 4th place not improving his overall score of 67 points. Richard Hawken also failing to improve his series score of 66, fell a few spots to finish 5th overall. Nigel Buse scored his best of the series on Saturday to propel him to 6th place with 65 points overall. Dropping two spots each, Derek Rushton (65 points) takes 7th place in the series, Shaun Beare (64 points) takes 8th and Shaun Hawken (64 points) 9th. Phil Hoare finished the series in 10th place with 63 points followed by Keith Hawke in 11th place on 62 points and Keith Thompson also on 62 points in 12th place. Rob Cook sneaks into the prizes a 13th place with 62 points overall.
