The penultimate round of the 2016-17 John Cory Cup Series was played this Saturday in favourable conditions for this time of year – no rain! The wind was from the west with an average speed of 30 mph.
Jack Irwin took the top spot with his score of 34 points beating John Arnold on countback. Jack played steady off his 2 handicap with a birdie on the 16th and as a result has been cut to 1! John Arnold, playing off 5 birdied the 6th, 8th and 17th but had to settle for 2nd place on countback. In 3rd and 4th place Colin Reynolds and Steve Chapman both scored 33 points and the rest of the prizes went to Norman Evans, Chris Jennings, Paul Clemens and Guy Hovil all with 32 points.
Being the last but one round of the Series there was some tussling on the series table. Andy Bunt held on to his lead with a combined 71 points. He is 3 points ahead of the next 3 players; Steve Chapman, Paul Clemens and Andy Griffiths, they are all on 68 points and could take the Series with a good round next week. John Arnold and Jack Irwin are also in with a shout for the champion’s position with Rob Cook and Guy Hovil also in the hunt. The final round will be played next Saturday.
