Saturday 21st March 2015 was the penultimate round of the John Cory Cup Series. The weather was perfect for the 84 members who teed off in this stableford competition. The sun shone and there was very little wind. There was also the chance to see how it should be done, with Luke Donald playing in the afternoon.
Shaun Beare didn’t need to pick up any tips from Donald, he hit a nett 67 to score 38 points and take first place. He has also moved up the table in the series with 20 points received for his win. In second place Russell Combellack scored 36 points and has secured his spot at the top of the series table with a combined score of 71 points. Keith Hawke came in 3rd with 35 points and beat Mike Masters into 4th and Norman Evans into 5th, on countback. Norman is now in 2nd in the series just 4 points behind Russell.
Nigel Buse finished in 6th place on Saturday with 34 points, with John Radford behind him on countback and Will Rich also with 34 points coming in 8th. In 9th place Tris Lang had 33 points and in 10th and 11th Nick Shelley and Marc Knight both scored 32 points. Malcolm Cole saw off a group of other players on countback with 31 points to take the last prize of the day in 12th position.
There is just one round left in the Cory Series. This will be played next Saturday so those with a shout at the top need to make sure they turn out otherwise we will never hear the end of it from Russell!
