The second round of the John Cory Cup was played on Saturday 19th November. 52 members turned out on the cold and windy day and as an extra challenge those playing later in the day also had to deal with heavy hail storms! The greens turned white, with hail like gravel on the greens making putting particularly difficult! As a result of the weather the competition was non-qualifying. Plymouth Argyle suffered over the weekend too - can we blame the weather for that? they ended their 14 match unbeaten run with a 0-3 defeat.
Out early in the morning Norman Evans was able to secure his victory before the hail hit. Norman scored 36 points with an excellent card returned, he had birdies on the 7th and on the 11th. Colin Reynolds came in 2nd place with 34 points, Colin had a nice run of pars around the 13th, he must had experienced some of the hail having played with the Balls Up group but he certainly was not put off his game. Steve Chapman also scored 34 points to finish in 3rd place beating Rod Frost on countback who had to settle for 4th place. Pete Liddicoat finished 5th with 33 points, Russel Combellack was 6th with 32 points and Mark Pimble and John Paul took 7th and 8th respectively with 31 points apiece.
