The stunning weather this weekend, brought 81 members out to play in the first round of the John Cory Cup on Saturday. It was warm and clear with hardly any wind so there were no excuses for poor golf and none needed by those at the top.
Mike Masters won the round on countback from Paul Clemens, both returning with 38 points. Mike had a birdie on the 11th, Paul birdied the 5th and the 17th. The round was won however on the 18th where Mike scored 3 points with his par, and Paul double bogied for 1 point. Dave Derry ended in 3rd place with 37 points having also birdied the 17th, he was ahead of John Paul and Ken Perring on countback, who came 4th and 5th respectively. On 36 points, Philip Hoare, Simon Hobbs and Tristan Lang finish in the prizes along with Andrew Sinclair and Shaun Hawken who finished with 35 points.
Oliver Smith returned with 46 points, his handicap is not competitive so he can not win but everyone will be pleased to know he has been cut significantly as a result!
The Cory Cup Series will continue throughout the winter with the final round to be played on 2nd April 2016.
