This week was the penultimate round in the John Cory Cup series and with fair weather there was a good field of eighty three. No one can predict what the day's golfing may produce, but there is always the hope of at least a few birdies and maybe even an eagle. However, the icing on the cake is always a hole in one and it would seem the 15th had a 'Frosting' (if you pardon the pun). There was some good scores and all very close, but the this week's winner, who if you hadn't guessed by now was Rod Frost, won with 35 points on countback aided by a hole in one! The four points on the 15th gave Rod the better back nine and edged Steve Buse who had an impressive 20 points on the front nine and also scored 35 into second place. Following closely and all scoring the same on the front and back it came down to countback on the last six with Russell Combellack, Tom Hughes and Nigel Connolly respectively on 34 points. Again this week Kerry Carthew made the prizes with a respectable 33 points. Last and by no means least, and again going on countback Phil Hoare, Dennis Brown and Rob Cook scored 32 points.
As the series stands so far and with one round left to play Andy Bunt is in the lead with 82 points. Currently in second place is Stuart Fleet on 66 points and this week's winner Rod Frost bolstered his tally and is now on 62 points. The last round of the John Cory Cup is on Saturday 29th February.
