The good weather and a serious case of post Christmas cabin fever made for a bumper entry this week for Round four of the John Cory Cup. A field of ninety four golfers stepped out to shake off the cobwebs of the festive season and welcome in the new golfing year.
Judging by the scores on the day it looked like most people managed to survive Christmas, especially young Jamie Beare. His golfing year is off to a flyer, for although he had four blobs he made up for that with two birdies on the back nine and a winning score of 38 points and as is customary with such a good score a handicap cut followed! Matt Fox was next in line having just missed out by one on 37 points and also receiving a cut. Following closely behind Richard Lawrence, Tom Hughes and Kerry Carthew all scored 36 points with Richard posting a better back nine on countback for third place. Phil Hoare, Stuart Morley and Andy Bunt scored 34 points and Stuart Kirkbride, Paul Honey, Rod Frost & Russell Combellack sneaked into the prizes with 33 points.
So, after four rounds Andy Bunt is the current leader with 67 series points, Matt Warr is in second place on 55 points and Stuart Fleet on 55. There still rounds left in the series and anything could (and usually does) happen!
This is the first competitionincluded in the Andrew Jolley Order Of Merit 2020.
This coming week's competition is a Texas Scramble.
