St. Enodoc Golf Club - Joe Cruse becomes Cornwall U-21 Closed Champion

The Cornwall Closed Championships were held yesterday at Perranporth and despite the wind gusting to 40 mph there was some good scoring.

The top three places on the leaderboard were filled by county players Conor Wilson, Ben Westgate and Joe Cruse,  with Wilson’s 2 over par total of 146 seeing him to a one shot victory over Westgate. It is the second time that Conor has won the county’s major stroke play championship following his previous success in 2008 and his win yesterday saw the Perranporth player further improve his handicap to plus 2.

The Under 21 title was won by Joe Cruse from St Enodoc who shot an excellent 72 in the afternoon round following his 76 in the morning to equal the low round of the day set earlier by Wilson.

The Championship is open to Professional and Amateur players up to 12 handicap. The highest placed Pro on the day was Adam Frayne from St Mellion some nine shots behind the winner.
