Wednesday 8th August saw the fourth annual playing of the 36 hole Foursomes James Braid Cleek. The cleek was very kindly presented to the Club by the James Braid Society when they came and played a match against the Club to commemorate both the event and the fact that the man himself, one of this county\'s most successful and prolific course designers as well as being 5 times Open Champion, was responsible for our magnificent course.
Despite reasonable weather for this gruelling event, as usual with Foursomes scoring well is very hard having said that two teams pulled well clear of the field and by dint of a countback Nigel Thomas – a past winner with a late substitute partner in Derek Rushton came out on top having made a charge on the second round. So who will Nigel choose as his partner next year? The event always enjoys a great atmosphere and camararderie with a good lunch and after it was all over no one departed for some while, all thanks to James Braid.
