St. Enodoc Golf Club - Ian Waters Trophy 2019 and a huge cheque for Cancer Research UK

Ian Waters Trophy 2019 and a huge cheque for Cancer Research UK

l to r: Dennis Brown, Sue Roworth and Club Captain Tony Mindel

The original date for this competition was postponed because of a,correctly, predicted storm. Sunday instead was a very pleasant spring day with a hint of breeze but none the less warm for the end of April. However the change of date clashed with that for Mothering Sunday and this reduced the numbers playing somewhat.

This event bears the name of a past Club Secretary whose term of office was tragically cut short due to his untimely death. With the luxury of both partners driving and being able to select the best ball with which to play out the hole the scores, in Stableford format, are usually good and this year was no exception.

The winners Sue Roworth and Dennis Brown had a storming front nine scoring 22 points, with the Ladies Captain in fine form with the putter. Well played both of you, your score of 36 points beating last years winners Sue Kingston-Frost and Rod Frost into second place by one point.

The Club Captain also took advantage of the occasion to present, on behalf of the Club, a cheque for £15100 to Sophie Barber the SW representative of Cancer Research UK. Sophie explained that most of this money will be spent on cancer treatment trial at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
