Storm Doris has certainly been giving our golfers a bashing this week, and the weekend was no different. Saturday’s competition was played in windy conditions with a strong south-westerly blowing throughout the day. The wind was strong enough to run a ship aground on Rock Beach but not strong enough to put off the 27 pairs who entered the Greensomes Stableford.
John Paul and Guy Hovil won with 36 points, 3 points clear of the field. Their front nine was brilliant, scoring them 22 points with a string of birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Mike Buse and Mark Meneer scored 33 points and took second place on countback. Mike was delighted to beat Nigel who had to settle for 3rd place with his partner Josh Greenaway also on 33 points. Tony Rounsevell and Andy Burt came 4th with 33 points and Greg Mather and Dennis Brown beat Rich Hawken and Nick Shelley on countback with 32 points.
