Sunday 1st December saw the second event in the 2013/14 Winter Golf Series held at St Enodoc Golf Club with an impressive entry of 46 competitors playing on a golf course in fantastic condition on a calm but cold day.
Three times Order of Merit winner and county stalwart Josh Greenaway (St Enodoc & Bowood Park) used his local knowledge to win the event with 36 scratch points, just enough to beat home player and the WGS Round 1 winner Steve Chapman by 1 on 35 points. In third place beating 3 others players on count back was Lanhydrock’s former Cornwall County player Colin Willis with 33 points,.
Steve Chapman won the handicap event with 35 points, beating Adam Taylor (Perranporth) on count back. Also on 35 points and coming in third and fourth places respectively were the new CGU County Vice Captain David Kneebone (Truro) and Richie Perrin (Falmouth.)
As a result, and with two rounds now complete, Chapman takes a large lead in this year's WGS Order of Merit on 35.5 points, with Carl Burley (Merlin) in second place on 26 points. In joint third place are Greenaway and Taylor on 23.5 points. The top 4 scores out of the 6 events count towards the final Winter Golf Series Order of Merit.
The top 8 in the WGS Order of Merit, plus two wild cards will again play a match against the Cornwall Professionals on the 6th April.
The Winter Golf Series would like to thank St Enodoc Golf Club for hosting the event, especially General Manager Tuck Clagett and to the Green staff on producing a golf course in great condition.
The WGS round 3 will take place at West Cornwall Golf Club on Sunday 15th December 2013.
