The Goodman Trophy was played on Sunday September 2nd in unusual conditions for the time of year. With the amount of rain that we have had this Summer the conditions of the course and the rough in particular were more akin to June than September with lush growth which was not helped on the day with the sea mist which came in for the afternoon making everything damp and even heavier. The full field of 72 players from some 37 different clubs and from as far as Manchester played 36 holes of Medal play with winds gusting between one and three clubs in strength. Against all this scoring on the day was really very difficult and the players are to be congratulated on some very creditable results.
With both Gross and Nett trophies to play for competition was keen and Josh Greenaway from Bowood won the Gross for the Rachel Biddle Trophy with rounds of 70 and 69 by 4 shots from St Enodoc\'s Joe Cruse. These scores should be seen in the perspective of a Standard Scratches of 75 - reductions only, which means that it should have been even more in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. James Thomas from East Devon playing off 2 won the Nett Goodman Trophy on countback from Josh with a nett score of 143 - again terrific scoring in the conditions.
With nett sweeps on both rounds and 2s plus the actual prizes there was some serious money to be won! Those in the main prizes of vouchers were:-
