Nick Williams (left) can only look on in envy as Simon Greatorex keeps a firm grip on Tom Noggi
Twelve months ago this event, one of the most popular it must be said in the Men's golfing calendar, was blighted with some very unkind weather. Yesterday the seventy-two participants who signed up for this march were rewarded with a fine dry winters day and hardly a breath of wind.
Without a waterproof in sight the combatants set out to do battle for either the General Manager's (Simon Greatorex) team or for the Head Pro's (Nick Williams) team. As usual the format for the match was four ball better ball match play with added banter and sledging thrown in for good measure. The result of the match was very tight with the last pair in ensuring a win for the General Manager by a one point margin - 9.5 to 8.5 Thus the trophy (the new trophy that is; it being alleged that the old one went into retirement with the 2016 winning Captain), and the corresponding bragging rights, will now spend the next year in the General Managers Office.
There was an excellent bangers and mash meal afterwards followed by a lengthy speech by Pro Nick Williams where the fines were dished out thick and fast for the most tenuous of offences ranging from failing to reach the ladies tee on the 1st to general wingeing; all in all the Captain's Charity benefited greatly. A great end to Christmas and the 2018 golfing calendar.
