At cold and breezy St Austell GC this morning our Frank Wills team showed some resolve in overcoming Killiow GC. It was Killiow who beat St Enodoc exactly one year ago in this competition. Every one of our pairs had to concede shots to their opponents and who made sure that there were no easy victories. Due to a late withdrawal by the injured Paul Clemens, Geoff Jones had to adjust his team bringing in the very experienced Richard Hawken to pair up again with his old partner Richard Lawrence - the Chuckle Brothers. They last played together in winning the final of the Wills in February 2015 - will history repeat itself ?
Such was the competitive nature of this match that three of the matches went to the 18th green, of which two were won and the other lost. The final pair, and who claimed the honour of clinching the match were Stuart Fleet and Adrian Halling. The day did not start well for them losing holes 1 & 2 and then going three down. Despite Adrian having to play a number of bunker sand saves they fought their way back to play some very good golf winning 2 & 1 on the 17th. Well played boys and well played team !
Kevin Brenton & John Rowe lost 4 & 3 to Andy Buerk & Pete Couls
Neil Bradley & John Pease beat John Crowson & Tim Cook 1 up
Richard Hawken & Richard Lawrence beat James Main & Jack Bridger 1 up
Rod Frost & Paul Warren lost 1 down to Rob Poole & Ben Chapman
Stuart Fleet & Adrian Halling beat Adam Roberts & Paddy McDunn 2 & 1
The team now move on the the Q-Final versus the winners of the Truro and Perranporth match. More pictures may be found on the Club's Facebook page.
