In the presence of the Club Captain, Vice-Captain and a good number of supporters this years Frank Wills team, Captained by Bob Cruse, started off their campaign with a win against a good Perranporth outfit. Playing at Newquay GC the morning started in Autumn sunshine and a light breeze, soon the clouds rolled in the temperature dropped and the breeze turned into a westerly wind.
Playing first Kevin Brenton & John Pease were 3 up after 4 holes courtesy of 2 birdies. Slowly their opponents reeled them in to win on the 17th. Guy Hovill & Nick Evans had a tough match but prevailed on the 17th. Despite an opening hole three putt Richard Hawken & Richard Lawrence were never down in their match and six pars in eight holes saw them home 5 & 4. Charlie Runnalls & Keith Hawke struggled but hung on to finally lose on the 17th. Playing last Sam Jarvis & Joe Combellack were on good form racing to a three up advantage after three; their opponents came back at them but were always struggling to make up a three hole deficit finally losing on the 16th. This ensured a 3 points to 2 win for St Enodoc - an encouraging start after the disappointments of recent seasons.
Captain Bob Cruse, speaking after the match, thanked all supporters for turning out and cheering his team on.
