St. Enodoc Golf Club - First of the Winter Mixed Greensomes

The bright sunshine and a sharp Winter's day enticed an excellent field of 24 teams to play in the first of the New Year mixed Greensomes; there would have been even more teams had we not been hosting a Frank Wills Quarter-Final between Looe and Treloy which was won by Looe. With near perfect winter weather and a light breeze which dropped away during play it was hoped that the scores would be good as the course, despite all the rain over the last 2 months, was in really very good shape.

We were not disappointed for with 37 points Norman and Annie Hawkey ran out the clear winners; it was doubly deserved since Annie had been the organiser on the day! Those in the prizes, all of which were excellent bottles of wine were;-

  1st Norman & Annie Hawkey 37 pts
  2nd Chris & Angela Tickner 35 pts
3rd John Carhart & Pauline Meredith 34 pts
  4th Kevin & Sue Richards 33 pts
  5th Mike Worden & Celia Jarvis 33pts

There was some excellent food available for the hungry players from the restaurant as we waited for all the teams to come in and before the prize giving. Celia Jarvis and Nigel Ashcroft presented the prizes, Nigel in honour of his recent award of an MBE for his services in the roll-out of superfast broadband in Cornwall. Maybe it was to help speed up its arrival at St Enodoc which is getting very close as parts of Rock are already up and running!
