This match, played as it was on the weekend of Guy Fawkes, had your scribe thinking, in advance of the event, of a piece full of pyrotechnical metaphors, similes and lexemes, not to mention morphemes. As in - "St Enodoc Bowl rocket takes off". Sadly your scribblers hopes were dashed in the stong winds and driving drizzle around Bowood golf course on Saturday when our Bowl hopefuls came up against a rather good, and sporting, Launceston GC team.
Stand in Bowl Captain Kenton Williams had a last minute panic when one Member of the Team got his dates muddled up and failed to arrive. Luckily Phil Hoare was present with kit and clubs and immediately filled in. Despite the final score line three of the matches were close and could have gone our way, but it was not to be. And so another year goes by without success in this most elusive of trophies .... one day soon maybe ?
Richard Palmer & Phil Hoare lost on the 19th to Paul Hicks & Penholwood
Martin Wilson & Andy Burt lost 3&2 to Derek Basford & Ernie Best
Matt Hamley & Ian Day lost 3&2 to Dan Sloman & Steve Greenaway
Mark Jarvis & Paul Honey lost 1 down to Mark Fear & Joe Dickinson
Kevin Cornford & Malcolm Mullis lost 2 down to Ian Huggins & Darren Chapman
With thanks to the Club Captain and a small band of hardy supporters for coming to Bowood - friendly faces are always appreciated.
