On Sunday November 17th in surprisingly benign and windless conditions our CTC team played a strong Perranporth team at Bude. The anticipation of a close game proved correct with some excellent golf on show.
After the morning foursomes St.Enodoc were in pole position leading 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 with the added bonus of Joe Combellack winning the ninth man match. This meant that they had to gain 3 1/2 points from the eight afternoon singles matches.
The first three games finished on the eighteenth green, Perranporth winning two of them. Wins for Josh Greenaway and Ian Joliffe balanced two more Perranporth victories, things were getting tight!
Perranporth needed a half from their talisman Conor Wilson whilst our team needed Steve Buse to win. Despite having been down early on Steve dug in and after sixteen holes was two up. Conor hit a great shot from the rough to win the seventeenth but Steve played a superb solid eighteenth to close out the match, a fitting climax to a tight tussle between two good teams. The final score beng St.Enodoc 6.75 - Perranporth 6
