The first day of winter time greeted the players at Perranporth for a dry and relatively peaceful day weather wise for golf between the Cornwall Team Championship sides of St Enodoc and old rivals Trevose. Both teams had some new faces this year so it was anybody's guess as to the outcome. The morning Foursomes produced some scintillating golf from both teams and all 4 matches were very close with the 2 Trevose wins from Guy Norris & Steve Davies over Joe Combellack & Rod Frost and Richard Ackland & Niall Hutton over Steve Buse & Mark Westlake both by the score of 2 & 1. Captain Steve Chapman & Robbie Moore won 1 up on the last green against Mike Reynard & Guy Norris and Joe Cruse & Josh Walsh halved with Ben Westgate & Mark Oliver. So it was 2 ½ – 1 ½ in favour of Trevose. The 9th man tie decider between Charlie Runnalls and Lee Cunningham went to Lee and Trevose with a 2 up score.
Great golf and close scoring sadly was not repeated in the afternoon as the first 3 games with our top players Joe Cruse, Steve Chapman and Josh Walsh all went down albeit due to some terrific scoring from their Trevose opponents. By now the die were cast and with 3 further losses only the last 2 games with Robbie Moore and Steve Buse were neck and neck but both agreed, in view of the state of the match, halves on the 15th green even though Steve Buse was 1 up at the time. The overall score finished 10 ¼ – 2 ½ in Trevose's favour, an enormous margin which belied the high quality play by both teams and the terrific camaraderie between all the players.
