The annual match between Cornwall and The Rest of the World took place on Saturday 30th June and it must be said this remains one of the most popular fixtures on the men’s calendar.
Spirits are high and banter is flowing on this wonderful competition day. There is truly a great spirit in the clubhouse and on the course, reminding all players just how lucky they are to be a part of this great club.
The Cornish side was again victorious in a new format this year – that is, playing all matches to a finish on the 18th hole and calculating the aggregate ‘holes up’ result for all matches to determine the winning side. Cornwall came out on top by a score of …….uhmmm….. close though it was…..let’s see….could that be right?.......35 to 19!?!?!
Captains Sean Beare and Kevin Francis amused us all with their speeches after dinner. Kevy claims that after 25 years of living in Cornwall he will now play for them next year. Sean gave us a few pointers on how to improve our domestic relationships. We were reminded about certain results on the day, some of which should not really be disclosed – but…Pete Smith and Steve Bale did lose by 9 down to Kevin Richards and John Westlake, so you could say a pattern was developing.
Everyone is already looking forward t to the rematch next year and I’m sure Cornwall is shaking in their boots!
