The St Enodoc Cornwall Bowl team won through to the next round with a tense victory over a competitive Lostwithiel team at a Sunny Carlyon Bay on Sunday 21st October. The opening pairing of Greg Mather and Team Captain Mark Richards got things off to a fine start with a 4 & 2 victory. The team went 2-0 up when juniors Sam McCloskey and Dan Pooley closed out a fine 6 & 4 win.
Things were looking good at this stage with all pairings on the course up in their matches. 2nd pair out David Bastard and Peter George who were 2 up after 14 then came to the last all square needing a win to secure victory. Both pairs had 3 foot putts to half the hole and at one stage it looked like halves would be taken and the match would proceed down the 19th but upon the intervention of their caddy the Lostwithiel pair decided to putt out and promptly missed their putt and it was left to the ice cold David Bastard to sink his putt to ensure victory for St Enodoc.
Peter Liddicoat and Danny Hoare suffered defeat on the 17th green after a very close see-saw battle. Final pairing of Norman Hawkey and Geoff Jones who were 1 down playing 18 managed a half after Norman nearly holed his bunker shot from the green side bunker on 18.
Team Captain Mark Richards speaking after the match thanked the supporters and caddies who had given their support on the day and hoped he might see a few more there when the next round is played.
