On a difficult day for good golf our two Pro's and their teams enjoyed mixed fortune as they played on day one of the tournament. The wind was blowing steadily at over 20mph, with the highest single gust at 47mph and it was squally and cold. An indication of difficulty can be seen from the average pro score at St Enodoc of 77 whilst at Trevose it was 80 !
Despite this our own Mark Arrowsmith shot 71 to lie joint second overall in the tournament (this is written at 1745 and not all teams have completed their rounds) and his team of Norman Evans, Kevin Brenton and Stuart Kirkbride accumulated 75 stableford points (two scores to count on each hole). Speaking after the round Mark said "That is one of the best rounds of golf I have played for a long time"
On the other hand Nick Williams said "Today was a complete disaster" and handed in a card showing a score of 13 over par 82. His team of Joe Cruse, Richard Hawken and Andy Bunt carded 69 stableford points.
Tomorrow our boys play at Trevose tee times 1330 and 1340 - go and support if you can.
