It was a beautiful Saturday this weekend for round 2 of the Colonels/Metropole Cups. The sunshine brought 92 members out to the club for the stableford competition. As well as the Colonels and Metropole cups, this Saturday was also the qualifier for the Lombard Trophy, a regional Pro/Am competition.
The Colonels Cup (Division 1) is currently being dominated by Nick Shelley who has earned 20 series points from both the 2 rounds so far. Nick is 5 points clear at the top of the Colonels Cup Series table. This weekend Nick scored 36 points to take first place on countback from Andy Beare in second. Both players have a handicap reduction. In third place Nick Evans scored 34, along with Josh Greenaway in fourth also on 34. Richard Hawken took the fifth spot with 33 points beating Steve Smith into sixth place on countback.
The Metropole Cup (Division 2) was also closely contested with Graham Keeble winning with 37 points. Colin Reynolds came in second with 36 points ahead of Keith Thompson on countback. Ben Chapman scored 34 points to take 4th place, with Danny Hoare in 5th on 33 points and Bob Cruse in 6th with 32 points. Keith Thompson leads the series table for the Metropole Cup 4 points ahead after 2 rounds.
35 players also entered the Lombard Qualifier. Andy Beare won with 34 points and qualifies to play in the regional final with Nick Williams at Burnham and Berrow.
