This Saturday was the 7th round of the Colonels/Metropole Cup – just 2 rounds to be played and plenty of room for manoeuvre at the top of the tables.
82 players competed in the men’s competition on the Church Course, 43 in division 1 and 39 in division 2. The north westerly wind made the front 9 holes challenging, to say the least, but the top scores returned were still excellent.
In Division 1, the Colonel’s Cup, Joe Combellack topped the board with 36 points including 2 blanks on the front 9! Behind Joe in 2nd position was Richard Hawken on 35 points and 3rd place Anders Tensjo also with 35 points. Ian McKelvey, Keith Hawke and John Pease followed on with 34 points a piece. Narrowly missing out on a prize Mike Buse also scored 34 points- back on form Mike?
Division 2, The Metropole Cup was won by Paul Honey with a consistently steady round giving him 36 points. 2nd place went to Ryan Perring with 35 points and then 3rd and 4th on 34 were Pete Liddicoat and Keith Willmott followed by Keith Thompson in 5th on 33 and Joe Tamblyn taking 6th on countback for a prize with 30 points.
At the top of the series table for the Colonels Cup we have Richard Hawken. Having played in every round Richard improved his 4th counting score by 2 points this weekend. 2nd and 3rd are Dave Flew and John Pease but there are less than 10 points between the top 11 on the table.
The Metropole Series is lead by Keith Thompson. Keith has also played every round and improved his 4th counting score by 5 this weekend. 2nd and 3rd are Matthew Warr and John Westlake. The top of the table however is still open to a number of takers over the next two rounds.
