Round 2 of the Colonels/Metropole Cup saw a bumper entry of 101 members this weekend. The sunshine had brought our members out of hiding although the wind came as a shock to those teeing off in the afternoon. It was a tough as ever on the course and the CSS was 74 with reductions only. Top of the results in both Division’s was dominated by morning players this week.
The Colonels Cup, for handicap players 12 and under was won by Rod Frost with 34 points and a lovely birdie on the 4th. Rod will also go forward with Nick Williams to the regional final of the Lombard Trophy.
In second, John Arnold had 33 points and behind him on countback was Lewis Bradley. Mark Westlake finished in 4th with 32 points and Steve Buse, Simon Welch, Nick Clark and Rob Cook all returned with 30 points to take the rest of the prizes.
The Metropole Cup, for player with handicaps of 13 and above was won by Joe Tamblyn with 31 points. Joe would not have expected to win after a not so great front nine but stormed home scoring 20 on the back nine, with a birdie on the 13th. Bob Cruse also scored 31 points but finished 2nd on countback. Malcolm Mullis came in 3rd with 30 points after missing his putt on the 18th. With 29 points David Barber, Terry Carthew and Andy Golding finished in 4th, 5th and 6th, and Nigel Ahearn and Ian Day came 7th and 8th with 28 points.
