The penultimate round of the Colonel’s/Metropole Cup was played in sunshine this weekend, with wind from the northwest, increasing through the afternoon. 96 members entered across the two divisions keen to improve their standings in the series.
Joe Cruse won the Colonel’s division with 36 points, he hit a gross 67 with birdies on 5, 7, 12, 14 and 15. Joe’s handicap is cut to +3. Mark Westlake came a very close second on countback also with 36 points after birdying 4, 15 and 16. Mark took the top 20 points for the series. Nick Evans, Charlie Runnalls, Rob Cook and Rod Frost all scored 35 points and Mike Buse and Joe Combellack took the final prizes with 34 points.
Tristan Lang scored 37 points to take first place in the Metropole Cup, with John Glynne-Jones in second with 36 points. Nigel Buse and Terry Carthew both scored 35 points and Keith Searle, Malcolm Knight and Malcolm Mullis making it into the prizes on 34 points.
The series has just one week to go. Steve Buse has topped the Colonel’s Cup for a few rounds but Charlie Runnalls has equalled Steve’s leading score this week. Keith Hawke is just 2 points behind, with Rich Hawken and Nick Shelley a further 2 points behind……place your bets please! Keith Thompson has taken the top of the Metropole series this week with 75 points from Steve Cock who has fallen to 2nd. Steve and Ken Perring are just 1 point behind with Keith Searle, Nigel Buse and Andy Griffiths all in with a shout. The final round is Saturday 19th September.
