The cup was played for on Sunday 21 August 2011 and what a fantastic turn out we had. Fourteen teams made up of one Junior, one lady and one gentleman played a Texas scramble on our Holywell course. There was a shotgun start at 12.30 pm and suddenly the course came alive with players young and old all out together for a great game of golf on a warm August afternoon.
It was a pleasure to see the Juniors being encouraged and supported by adult players. For some Juniors it was the first time they had played 18 holes and for others the first time they had played in a competition. Teams were made up of families and some teams were made up of generous adults who gave up their Sunday afternoon to take part with a Junior not previously known to them, a massive thank you for their time and enthusiasm - you may have played a part in the development of a future champion!
Charlie Edwards team won the day, Charlie with John and Teresa Radford scored a nett 53.6 and took the Cole Rayment and White Cup. This was Charlies first competition AND first eighteen holes and he played exceedingly well, a credit to Mark and by all accounts a credit to his parents.
Runner up was Zak Burts team, with Kath Biddle and Steve Smith, with nett 54.1 including an Eagle on the 11th. In third place was Shannon Ashcrofts team with 54.3 who played with her Mum Lynn and Dad Nigel. Afterwards we all enjoyed a lovely tea of platters of sandwiches with chips and roast potatoes whilst Malcolm Cole presented the prizes and the cup.
