The Club Challenge Cup was played last Saturday, 27th June 2015. A Medal Competition so a few less turned out than is usual for a sunny Saturday. 67 members took up the challenge on a tough course with the rough taking no prisoners. The weather was warm and sunny but as we come to expect there was a stiff wind about.
Guy Hovil had a great round to take 1st place and get his name on the honours board. Guy shot a gross 73 just one shot shy of the Competition Standard Scratch giving him a nett 68. Guy’s card will go forward for qualification to the Srixon Amateur Championship at The Belfry in September.
In second place Kevin Brenton shot 75 to finish with nett 70, beating Peter Sinclair in 3rd and Kevin Richards in 4th on countback. Keith Thompson and Richard Hawken finished their rounds with nett 71 to take 5th and 6th respectively, with Rob Cook and Richard Lawrence scoring nett 72 in 7th and 8th place. Nick Clarke and John Paul sneaked into the prizes in 9th and 10th position on countback with nett scores of 73.
Joe Cruse forgot to put his handicap on his card so I have taken great pleasure in disqualifying him from the competition!
