In front of an excellent turnout of St Enodoc supporters, including the Club Captain and Head Professional, the Frank Wills team turned on the style at wet and muddy Trethorne today to beat Lostwithiel by 5 points to nil.
Showing but one change from the previous round with 17 year old Junior Captain Jake Sanders replacing out of form Charlie Runnalls this was an emphatic performance and sets up a 3rd round tie with either Truro or Trevose. Every pair had to give shots to their Lostwithiel opponents.
In the tighest game of the match Kevin Brenton and John Pease had to wait until the 19th for their win. The next match was close too for a while with Nick Evans and Guy Hovil, giving four shots, going two down at one point; however slowly they gained confidence playing some fine shots to close out their game 3 & 1. Next up were Richard Hawken and Richard Lawrence, probably the bankers for a point in this team, with a comprehensive 6 & 5 demolition job - including a Richard Lawrence chip in - four shots dropped in 13 holes including a double bogey ! Being two down after two holes gave juniors Sam Jarvis and Joe Combellack a wake up call and wake up they did with another 6 & 5 win. This included an unlikely half on the 11th; Sam put his tee shot in a hedge, Joe playing under penalty then put his 3rd 180 yds stone dead on the green - exit left one very impressed Head Professional. Finally debutant Jake Sanders teamed up with Keith Hawke for another impressive 6 & 5 win.
Congratulations to the team, Captain Bob and thanks to the caddies and numerous supporters.
