Nearly a year ago it was decided to give a greater emphasis (and hopefully bigger entries) to the most prestigious club competitions the Magor Gold Medal for the men and the Barbara Robson Stroke Play Championship for the ladies- the club championship competitions and make them both over 36 holes. The intention was to play them both over the weekend of September 26th/27th. Unfortunately external events have conspired to make a change in our plans this year. Having avoided county matches we have run into the Maxam Cup which would take away 6 of the best male players on the 27th. The golf calendar is so crowded the next available weekend is in mid November!
The new format for this year will now take place over 2 Saturdays, September 26th and October 3rd. Time sheets will be put up to sign in, on the 26th the Woodcote Park Cup handicap event for men (off the white tees) will take place in the morning, the Magor Medal (off the blue tees) at midday with the ladies teeing off early afternoon for their first round.
On October 3rd the Sir Cecil Carr 4-club men’s competition will take place as normal except the tee will be reserved at midday for those in the the 2nd round of championships. I hope members will support this format (both playing and spectating) although it is not the one originally intended.
