St Enodoc Maxam Cup Team L-R Steve Chapman, Josh Greenaway, Ian Jolliff, Joe Combellack, Neil Childs & Dave Lupton
On Sunday 11th August the Cornwall County Golf Union Maxam Cup was held at Bude again this year. The club happily stepped in as a last minute replacement for this 36 hole foursomes medal competition. The St Enodoc team was made up of three pairs who for most part are experienced in the County competitions with one new addition in Neil Childs.
It was always going to be a tough day with the unsettled weather playing a big part, but the boys weren't put off. The first partnership to set off was Steve Chapman & Ian Jolliff who were +5 with a nett 76 in the morning round. Joe Combellack & Josh Greenaway followed suit with a +5 nett 76 and Neil Childs & Dave Lupton were +12.
At the half way point St Enodoc were lying in second at +10 two shots behind Tehidy at +8, so it was all to play for. The weather improved and so did Steve & Ian's second round score finishing +1. Joe & Josh repeated their morning score with a nett 76 having left a couple of shots out there. Neil & Dave improved on their afternoon round with a nett 79.
It was close at the end needing two scores to count for each team, but Tehidy who lead at the halfway stage finished in third with a total of 302. Unfortunately, St Enodoc had to wait until the very last moment for Trevose to return their scores only to find they had lost out by two shots to finish second with 300.
It was a fantastic effort by the team in difficult and on occasions somewhat brutal conditions. Well done boys!
