Wednesday 13th June saw the arrival of thirty one teams participating in the Club Charity Day – amongst them teams from Yorkshire and the Midlands.
Nick Williams had negotiated a very respectable golfing prize table displayed in the clubhouse, and that combined with fine weather and a Church Course in excellent condition served to spark the golfers in to some outstanding scores. That was underlined by the four ‘nearest the pin’ winners, of whom only one was outside a yard from the flag.
My thanks to all our bar and restaurant staff who clearly impressed the visitors with their warm hospitality, and that extends to the office, along with the rangers and ball spotters.
I must also offer my appreciation to local businesses and to club members who contributed by way of hole sponsorship and the donation of prizes for the raffle.
Coupled with the nature of the Charity, the superb raffle prize list definitely proved appealing, because this alone raised over £1,500 for Cancer Research UK. Whilst yet to be finalised, it is anticipated that the day will have gathered close to £6,000 for the charity, and has prompted the handing over of £800 to the Ladies Captain’s charity. Diana was generous enough to support me in the sales of raffle tickets and the sourcing of the prizes, and she proved a far better saleswoman capable of selling solar panels, double glazing, and lucky heather!!!
Finally, sincere thanks to all members for their support and their generosity in buying raffle tickets.
