The change of date for this annual event meant that it was played in lovely sunshine on November 6th but with a tough North Easterly wind and saw the Men triumph. The first match of the eight out included both the Captain and the Ladies Captain and it followed the tail of the Frank Wills Round 2 match between Bowood and Launceston which incidentally was won 3 – 2 by Bowood. It resulted in a win for John Baxter and Simon Pain 4&3 over Penny Moon and Sue Willmott; the Ladies in the form of Celia Jarvis and Annie Matthews won 3&1 in the second match, thereafter the Men ran away with the next 5 matches. All was not lost as the marital grudge match between John Russell and Stuart Sandercock resulted in a win for their spouses Helen and Sarah 4&3.
The match was played in great spirit despite considerable discussion on the format both this year and for future years but was marred by an incident on the 6th when Norman “The good shepherd from St Wenn” managed to hit Larry Barnecuut on the leg as she was walking up the path to the 7th tee. Norman and partner Roger Tremain had the biggest winning margin of 6&5 whose opponents will remain nameless in the interests of the Webmaster\'s life. The golf was followed by an excellent meal and the final victory of 6 to 2 in favour of the Men hopefully will result in bigger teams next year.
