Inter Club Handicap Shield (Handicaps 21 – 36)
Teams from seventeen golf clubs travelled to The Point at Polzeath on Thursday 2nd July to compete for the Handicap Shield which is awarded to the Club team with the best three aggregate scores over 18 holes.
Maxine Rich, Penny Moon, Sue Richards and Lynn Ashcroft were the four players chosen to represent St Enodoc, ably assisted by their caddies Sue G.Jones, Sue F. Jones, Kevin “man amongst the girls” Richards and Annie Hawkey.
The team were first off in drizzly weather which stayed with them throughout the round but did not hinder their performances with all the players posting excellent scores. They were leaders in the clubhouse from the start and stayed there until the end winning the Bronze Shield for St Enodoc eight shots ahead of their nearest rivals with a total score of 217.
Not only did they win the team competition but Lynn Ashcroft played a superb four under her handicap to win the “Andrews Cup” (for the best individual scratch score) with a gross 92 to become Bronze Champion.
