The entry sheet for the annual Boxing Day Foursomes had more names on it than ever but come the day and the threat of a good drenching saw many scurrying for cover. Having said that the weather turned foul but 28 brave souls went out to play and it was noticeable that the first three three pairs in the prizes were in the opening two games who got in without getting too wet. The format of the event is any combination of players who then play a 12 hole Stableford, this was reduced this year to 9 in view of the rain. Each player brings a wrapped prize to a value of under £6.00 to go on the prize table with the winners getting first pick and so on till the remaining two prizes go to those who came last who this year just happened the winners from 2 years ago Dave Oldham & Annie Hawkey on a strong 4 points – how are the mighty fallen!
With all the standing water around the course it looked more like a Jack Nicklaus design than a James Braid links venue but it was still very playable even after all this rain unlike most courses though the greens were a bit on the slow side. Those who played had the big advantage of feeling good afterwards having been able to walk off a surfeit of Christmas food and drink unlike those that wimped out.
The early visitiors to the prize table were;-
1st Joe Cruse & Penny Cartwright 17 pts
2nd Andy Bunt & Sarah Fisher 16 pts
3rd Simon Pain & Edna Alford 16 pts
4th Keith & Barbara Willmott 12 pts
5th Will & Maxine Rich 12 pts
