The 2019 Battle Trophy Series kicked off in the lead up to Easter. Medal competitions don't usually attract too many takers, but this one always tends to draw a good entry and this year was no different with 63 competitors.
Richard Hawken drew first blood by recording a nett 74, with birdies on the 2nd,10th and 17th. Even with a couple of bogey's and double bogey's throughtout his round, Rich still had the lowest Gross score of 79. Following close behind was Martin Trees who also birdied the 2nd and the 17th along with the 4th to score a nett 75.
The scoring was fairly close in the groups behind with Stuart Fleet and Richard Hambly in third and fourth place respectively with a nett 78 and John Arnold, Martin Biddle and John Paul carding a nett 79. Just sneaking into the prizes with a nett 80 was Paul Clemens and Nigel Connolly.
James Hutchings won the Battle Trophy last year, so I am sure that he will be looking to retain his title. However, it is only the first round, but past winner Rich Hawken is definitely off to a good start......watch this space!!
